Day of Mourning - April 28

Posted May 1, 2023, 8:29am

April 28, is the National Day of Mourning. It is a time for us to remember and honour workers who have lost their lives or were injured in the workplace. I want to extend my sympathies to the workers, families, and individuals who have lost loved ones. The Day of Mourning is about remembering and reaffirming our commitment to improved workplace health and safety. Every worker has a right to a safe and healthy workplace, and a right to refuse unsafe work.

We need to create a workplace safety culture in Prince Edward Island and across the country. We need to forge ahead with a renewed respect for the importance of all workers, and a commitment to strengthen workplace safety legislation, education, and enforcement.
