UPSE is pleased to have reached an agreement with Health P.E.I. to end the use of travel Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Resident Care Workers (RCWs) and Patient Care Workers (PCWs) to perform the work of UPSE members by March 31, 2027.
UPSE President Karen Jackson worked directly with Health P.E.I.’s acting CEO to reach an agreement that addresses members’ concerns while giving the health-care system time to prepare for the transition.
For years, UPSE members have raised concerns about agency workers doing the same work for significantly higher pay. This practice affects morale and comes at a substantial cost to taxpayers.
This agreement is an important step toward reducing privatization, supporting our members and ensuring public dollars are invested in public health care.
